Studhorse Mountain Shores

October 31, 2011 Leave a comment

Eva and I collaborated this past weekend to create this short video.

Still images were taken at 5 second intervals with a Nikon D300s, then imported into and edited with Aperture 3. They were then exported using the Aperture 3 plugin Border FX. Still images were then imported into Final Cut Pro at 1/28th second duration and placed into timeline to create time lapse motion. Eva’s piano playing was captured using a Zoom H4n Handy Recorder and edited with the freeware app Audacity. Paul Bagnulo at 7t created logo and digital graphics.

Rockin’ Robin

July 24, 2011 7 comments

Eva and I explored a new robin’s nest in our car port today…and found 3 beautiful turquoise eggs. Mama robin wasn’t too pleased with our proximity, so we took our photos and departed quickly.

~UPDATE~ August 8, 2011

Over the weekend, mama robin hatched two healthy chicks who are hungry for food….images at the tail end of slideshow below.

Check out my favorite robin chick photo.

A Ride for Peter

July 21, 2011 1 comment

Tonight , 15 riders met at Brown’s Farm and lit out for a 20 mile mountain bike ride on a trail that Peter has ridden and skied dozens of times. While he may not have been in the Methow with his buddies this evening,  pushing the big gear along the trails up to Schaefer Meadow, I think it is safe to say that Peter’s energy infused each of us in the moments when we felt an urge to let up on the pace, sit up in the saddle and relax a bit. Knowing the fight that he is in right now helped us keep the momentum high as if to will our energy to him. So on this, his 56th birthday, our collective wish for Peter is for him to find the energy to keep striving towards recovery.

Happy Birthday to you Pete…we are all with you, and we are all looking forward to many more rides together.

Sally the Salamander

July 19, 2011 2 comments

Ok…so she’s not really a salamander, she’s an Alligator Lizard. And we’re not even sure she’s a she. One thing that is certain, however, is that she/he was hungry today. I found Sally about a month ago while on a bike ride and brought her home to the girls in the back pocket of my jersey. Eva and I made a little makeshift terrarium for her (anyone have an old one they’re looking to offload?) We’ve been feeding her moths, ants, slugs, potato bugs and other random small insects. To my knowledge she hasn’t had an opportunity to sample fresh grasshopper since she’s been at Chez Weymuller…until today. Sally isn’t the fastest reptile you’ve ever seen…after all I caught her while wearing cycling shoes…but when that hopper made an entrance this afternoon, the hunt began, and it didn’t take long.

Methow Valley Star Trails Association (MVSTA ;-)

Clear skies in the Methow Valley tonight…took the opportunity to go out and take a photo. I haven’t used my 11-16 f2.8 wide angle lens to shoot the night sky before…I really like the results:

Star trails over the Methow Valley of Washington State

The blotchy streak of light across the sky is the Milky Way Galaxy.

If you click on the image above, you will be taken to my website where you may view this photo in larger format.

Hive Minded

June 24, 2011 8 comments

My Dad is allergic to bee stings.

My Mother-In-Law is too.

I’m glad they can watch this video from the safety of their computer monitors.

The single most amazing thing about this experience was holding my hand less than an inch away from the bees and feeling the heat radiating off of their little bodies. Searching for a new place to locate a hive is tough and exhausting business…so these docile little guys have no time to consider stinging interlopers such as us.

Maybe I’ll even invite Grandpa and Nana out next time…
