Hive Minded
My Dad is allergic to bee stings.
My Mother-In-Law is too.
I’m glad they can watch this video from the safety of their computer monitors.
The single most amazing thing about this experience was holding my hand less than an inch away from the bees and feeling the heat radiating off of their little bodies. Searching for a new place to locate a hive is tough and exhausting business…so these docile little guys have no time to consider stinging interlopers such as us.
Maybe I’ll even invite Grandpa and Nana out next time…

Did you get stung at all? I would have cried and run to the school nurse everytime it happened…like I did in 6th grade.
We were up there for 30 minutes or more and none of us got stung. We estimated that there were probably about 30k – 40k bees in that ball.
Great footage E.! Must have been the cool temps that kept the bees calm. We had a similar experience one summer when I was a kid and a queen bee decided to move from an orchard to our apricot tree adjacent to the garage. There were thousands of bees flying around in our garage and the tree trying to re-connect with the queen. Being a child about Hannah’s age I was walking home from school in a dream state and walked into the middle of the garage not seeing or hearing a thing until….my mother came screaming out of the house. She was a bit concerned as I’m allergic to bees. I walked out of the garage—no stings. The bees were smoked and coerced into a bee box by a local bee farmer.
I must say, watching from the safety of the computer is much more comfortable!
Incredible!
Very cool. Thanks for sharing!
Holy cow!! That is soooo cool. I wish I could have experienced that fine little act of nature.
